As gasoline prices rise, the advantages of using fuel efficiently increase. Here are some tips to help you go green:

Inflate your tires to recommended air pressure. If your tires are not fully inflated, your vehicle's engine must consume more fuel to travel at the same speed.
Maintain steady driving speeds, ease off the gas pedal in anticipation of the need to slow or stop, and minimize rapid accelerations.
Follow the speed limit on the highway. At higher speeds, it takes more fuel to overcome wind resistance and road friction.
Close your windows and use internal vents to reduce wind resistance on the highway.
Avoid idling during warm weather and minimize idling during cold weather.

New York City Holiday Traffic Alert

New York City's greatest level of traffic congestion typically occurs during the same six week period every year - from Thanksgiving until after the New Year.
The NYC Holiday Traffic Plan is designed to facilitate the movement of people in and around the City during this holiday season is modified and released.

If you have ever been in the city this time of year, you know that the NYC Holiday Traffic Plan (designed to facilitate the movement of people in and around the City) meets with very limited success.

Our chauffeurs and clients are already experiencing significantly longer travel times when traveling to/from or within New York City.

PLEASE allow extra time for travel to/from New York City and be prepared for traffic to be very, very difficult.

Gridlock Alert Days

The City has designated a number of days during the holiday season as Gridlock Alert Days which are days when significant vehicle traffic is expected. Expect that traffic delays will be substantial into and out of the city, as well as within Manhattan.

· Friday, December 14
· Wednesday, December 19
· Thursday, December 20
· Friday, December 21

NYPD will focus on making this the safest holiday season ever, with the goal of reducing accidents, injuries and fatalities. Enforcement will be increased in midtown and in other key areas of the City and will focus on decreasing hazardous driving behaviors. NYPD will also focus on taxis and delivery trucks to ensure they are complying with all traffic laws.

Please remember that traffic patterns - the roads that may be traveled and our chauffeurs' ability to make turns - change during the holiday period (which lasts until after January 1, 2008) on a day-to-day basis, with no notice.

Navigating the Airport

As most travelers know, navigating your way through the airport, any airport, can be a daunting task. That is why we at Boston Chauffeur provide concise pick-up instructions for all major airports on the confirmation we email to you when you book with us. This will make it much easier to locate your driver so that you can quickly be on your way.

Our "home" airport, Boston's Logan Airport, has several terminals, each with their own areas for chauffeured cars to wait. Due to security regulations following 9/11, drivers cannot leave cars unattended outside the terminals. Therefore, designated areas at each terminal have been established for pick-ups.

Terminal A: Please exit the terminal near baggage claim #1 (lower level) and cross to the third traffic island, which is the limo stand.

Terminal B (American): Please meet driver curbside, 2nd level, at the limo stand located outside the door nearest Dunkin Donuts.

Terminal B (US Airways): Please meet driver curbside, 2nd level, turn right at the end of the terminal.

Terminal C: From baggage claim please go up the escalator to information booth #1 on the departure level. Please walk around the advertising billboards and the door on the left to the crosswalk. Please follow the crosswalk to the 2nd traffic island to meet your driver.

Terminal E: Please exit Customs Hall and go left towards Hudson News Shop. Exit building through doors between the elevators and Hudson News. Cross two traffic lanes to limo stand.

How can meeting planners make the most of their ground transportation dollars? Here are some tips to help you out!
Reserve your transportation as soon as possible. In addition to avoiding cost increases, you will also avoid a last-minute scramble to find appropriate vehicles.
Be sure to communicate with your guests. This is very important. Keep all meeting attendees up-to-date on pick-up and drop-off times, pick-up and drop-off locations, and what types of vehicles to look for.
Be as accurate and as detailed as possible when booking your ground transportation. It is important to have as much information as possible prior to booking your ground transportation. When calling to reserve, please be prepared with date and duration of your event, location(s), number of attendees, type of attendees (VIPs, executives, employees, etc.), information for any off-site transportation that may be needed, and any special services that may be needed (meet-and-greets, special signage, etc.).
Budget appropriately. It is best to figure approximately 10% - 15% of your meeting budget for ground transportation.

Large meetings, corporate events, and corporate road shows are no doubt a huge undertaking for any event planner. With proper planning these events can run smoothly and be a success. Time To Think About Holiday Travel

November is HERE! Actually, it is almost DECEMBER! Where has 2007 gone??? In any case, with the holidays upon us it is time to start planning holiday travel. The days surrounding Thanksgiving and Christmas are traditionally two of the busiest and most stressful times of the year to travel. Your stress can be eased by preparing in advance. Here are some important tips to keep in mind when travelling during the busy holiday season:

Know the peak travel dates. It is best to travel as early as possible in the week prior to the holiday.

Consider alternate airports. Often you will save time and money and have a more pleasant experience by utilizing a smaller airport.

Be careful with connections. Allow sufficient time for layovers, and build in ample time for flight delays and weather issues.

Leave early when heading to the airport. Arrange to have your driver at your home extra early to allow time for traffic.

Travel light. Airlines are strictly enforcing luggage weight guidelines.

Travel early or late in the day. Airports are least congested at these times.

Always check current security guidelines so that you are aware of what you can carry on the aircraft and what must be checked. The website for the TSA is a good place to start.

Stay up-to-date on weather conditions to plan for delays and to pack accordingly.

If traveling with gifts, do not wrap them as they will most likely be searched. Whenever possible, ship gifts ahead of time to your destination.

Boston Chauffeur has recently added hybrid vehicles in Boston & New York. The move was part of the company’s green initiative to replace its existing fleet with environmentally friendly vehicles.

“As our vehicles come up for renewal,” said David Loper, Boston Chauffeur's Fleet Director, “we are replacing them with hybrid and other alternative fuel vehicles.”

Already in use is the Lexus RX 400H Hybrid & Honda Accord. Over the next several months further purchases will ensue, including the GMC Flex Fuel Yukons and Bio-Diesel fueled Mini-Coaches.

"Boston Chauffeur's goal is to become a more environmentally conscious corporation,” said Boston Chauffeur's GM Mark Kini. “We are mindful of the impact our vehicles have on the environment and we are committed to doing everything we can to reduce greenhouse gases.”

Earlier this year, Boston Chauffeur moved to create a series of green initiatives that would eliminate and/or minimize those business practices which had an adverse effect on the earth’s natural resources. The company’s primary initiative was to increase the number of fuel efficient vehicles in its fleet. The incredible popularity and lackluster gas mileage of the SUV made it the most logical place to start. The flex fuel Suburban runs on gasoline and E85 Ethanol, which uses a cleaner-burning fuel made from U.S. grown biomaterial such as corn and other grain products.

Boston Chauffeur continues to investigate the market for fuel friendly vehicles that will best suit the needs of their clients, the environment, and alternative fuel availability.
